In this fast-paced world, things have changed so rapidly. There’s a great transformation in the medical sciences and health field, all thanks to the unstoppable technology.

Yet, somewhere, though this progress has occurred, there are certain diseases in which no complete cure or breakthrough has been found. One such disease is HIV infection or AIDS as it is commonly known.

In times when we don’t yet see a cure for diseases such as AIDS, it becomes the duty of society to take it upon itself to come up with some measures, to create awareness and reach out where technology doesn’t.

According to the information from a government website, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases. It is spread by contact with certain bodily fluids of a person with HIV, most commonly during unprotected sex or through sharing injection drug equipment.

AIDS is the late stage of HIV infection that occurs when the body’s immune system is badly damaged because of the virus.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), AIDS is the late stage of HIV infection that occurs when the body’s immune system is badly damaged because of the virus.

World AIDS Day2023, under the theme, “Let communities lead”, is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made to date, to raise awareness about the challenges that remain to achieve the goals of ending AIDS by 2030, and to mobilize all stake holders to jointly redouble efforts to ensure the success of the HIV response.

Some ways to spread awareness about AIDS

Attend a WORLD AIDS DAY event in your community.

Wear a red ribbon or other symbol of support for people living with HIV.

Make a donation to an organization working to fight HIV/AIDS.

Talk to your friends and family about HIV/AIDS.

Get tested for HIV.

Create awareness among people to take an action if infected with HIV- oneself or other relatives.

Promote and access to healthy and safe blood transfusion.

How to support people with AIDS?

Counselling

People with AIDS need counselling so that they can share their mental concerns with others. Listen to them and making them feel at ease, can give them mental support, which is mandatory for people with AIDS

Educate

AIDS patients need to be well informed and educated so they can access valuable treatment. Similarly, patients, friends and relatives also need to be educated.

Treatment and adherence

Taking medications for AIDS and adhering to the same can increase the life span of patients and help to reduce comorbidities.

Conclusion:

There's no cure for HIV/AIDS, but medications can control the infection and prevent the progression of the disease. Antiviral treatments for HIV have reduced AIDS deaths around the world, and international organizations are working to increase the availability of prevention measures and treatment in resource-poor countries.
